Extra $10,000 on bench
QUEENSLAND judges’ pay packets have increased in the past year, with rises of up to $10,000 on already whopping six-figure salaries.
Figures released by the State Government yesterday show that from July, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court received $519,406.88 in total remuneration – about $10,000 more than the pay packet from July the previous year.
Supreme Court judges now earn $9000 more than in July last year, with their remuneration now $458,840.
Queensland magistrates now receive $361,107.08, about $7000 more than last year.
Earlier this year, Chief Justice Catherine Holmes called for more resources for the Supreme Court, saying her colleagues were reaching breaking point because of stress and fatigue under an insurmountable workload.
