Ex­tra $10,000 on bench

QUEENS­LAND judges’ pay pack­ets have in­creased in the past year, with rises of up to $10,000 on al­ready whop­ping six-fig­ure salaries.

Fig­ures re­leased by the State Gov­ern­ment yes­ter­day show that from July, the Chief Jus­tice of the Supreme Court re­ceived $519,406.88 in to­tal re­mu­ner­a­tion – about $10,000 more than the pay packet from July the pre­vi­ous year.

Supreme Court judges now earn $9000 more than in July last year, with their re­mu­ner­a­tion now $458,840.

Queens­land mag­is­trates now re­ceive $361,107.08, about $7000 more than last year.

Ear­lier this year, Chief Jus­tice Cather­ine Holmes called for more re­sources for the Supreme Court, say­ing her col­leagues were reach­ing break­ing point be­cause of stress and fa­tigue un­der an in­sur­mount­able work­load.
