Man charged with jogger death tried to go abroad
A MAN will remain in custody over the death of a Logan mother after it was revealed he tried to leave the country.
Ratan Singh Sandip, 25, of Algester, faced court yesterday after he was charged over the death of Mt Warren Park mother of three Beth Eden, on November 27 last year.
Ms Eden, 60, was killed when she was hit by a car while jogging on a footpath in Milne St, 300m from her Mt Warren Park home.
On Friday night, police arrested Sandip at the Brisbane International Airport after officers were told he was trying to leave the country.
A police spokesman con- firmed officers were alerted that Sandip was trying to flee to Bahrain.
Ms Eden’s children Laura, 35, Tim, 33, Rebekah, 28, her husband Jim, 62, and extended family were at Beenleigh Magistrates Court yesterday for Sandip’s hearing.
Outside court, they expressed their gratitude to Queensland police for their quick action.
“We are very very grateful to the police that they actually managed to apprehend (Sandip) before he left the country,” Rebekah said.
Sandip did not apply for bail and will next appear in court on February 6.
