Shades of yesterday in Nine’s ‘new-look’ Today

The Courier-Mail - - NEWS -

SAME-same, but different – there seemed something a little bit familiar yesterday about Today when the “newlook” show launched on Monday morning.

Deb Knight and Georgie Gardner (pictured) helmed, flanked by new newsreader Tom Steinfort, entertainment reporter Brooke Boney and sports reporter Tony Jones.

Gardner took the lead at 5.30am, introducing viewers to the new panel, with several of them prefacing any stuff-ups with “first day of school” nerves. And despite being dumped for former Triple J newsreader Boney, Richard Wilkins made a bizarre appearance just after 8am in an awkward interview with actor Luke Bracey.

Meanwhile, radio-trained Boney was still finding her TV feet, looking around aimlessly as if no one had told her which camera to look at. And while Nine has been spruiking its new-look breakfast show for weeks, it was only the onscreen graphics that looked as if they’d been updated.

It seems viewers aren’t fans of the new line-up either.

One person wrote on the show’s Facebook page: “Sorry to say but the ‘ New Today’ program with its new blend of hosts honestly is as boring as watching the paint dry.”
