Mayor dies after stab attack
WARSAW: The mayor of a Polish city has died in hospital after he was stabbed while on stage during a charity event.
Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz was attacked with a sharp tool during a fundraising event organised by a Polish charity. Interior Minister Joachim Brudzinski called the stabbing “an act of inexplicable barbarity”. A suspect was arrested, Mr Brudzinski said.
Polish broadcaster TVN reported the man shouted from the stage that he was imprisoned under the government of Civic Platform, a party to which the mayor formerly belonged, despite being innocent.
