GODZILLA AND KONG SHUT DOWN VALLEY’S CHINATOWN

HOLLYWOOD blockbuste­r Godzilla vs. Kong has come to Brisbane.

A film set took over the Chinatown Mall in the busy inner city suburb of Fortitude Valley yesterday for a one-day shoot in the city.

The joint Warner Bros and Legendary film has been filming at Village Roadshow Studios and on location on the Gold Coast since January, having previously filmed in Hawaii.

Throughout the day ay unit trucks and trailers s surrounded a closedoff section of the Chinatown Mall, which was guarded by y security, while filming g took place in the markets kt and a side alleyway.

“We are shooting a scene that takes place in Chinatown, not in Brisbane, so we are using your beautiful Chinatown,” unit publicist Deborah Simmrin told Confidenti­al. “It will be our only day in Brisbane.”

“(The shoot) has been great. It's lovely here.”

The film stars Alexander Skarsgard, Eiza Gonzalez, Millie Bobby Brown (inset) and Julian Dennison, although it wasn’t clear which of the actors were involved in the Chinatown scene. While Gonzalez has already wrapped her role in the film, Brown arrived in Queensland last week, attending a closed event at the Converse store at Westfield Chermside, in Brisbane’s north, on Saturday. Dennison, the breakout New Zeal Zealand actor from Hunt for t the Wilderpeop­le, has also al recently re arrived ar on the th Gold Coast. C The ba base camp fo for the sh shoot was se set up in th the innercity suburb of Newstead, near the trendy Gasworks food and shopping precinct. The film is expected to create up to 300 jobs and $43 million in expenditur­e on jobs, goods and services in Queensland.
