DV ORDERS A FAILURE

-

I WONDER how many innocent deaths it takes before Queensland and indeed Australia’s lawmakers understand restraining orders are no more effective than our revolving door bail policy.

What naivety makes the justice system think a serial domestic violence offender gives a hoot about a restraining order.

They are breached daily and victims are dying as a result.

If someone is so violently unstable, only physical restraint will prevent more deaths and not a bunch of pink ribbons and trite, pointless “time’s up on DV” catchphrases.

With police resources stretched to the limit, Doreen Langham’s appeals for help (C-M, Feb 25) appear to have been allocated to the “cry wolf” basket. Sadly, events proved she wasn’t raising false alarms, but her life was truly in danger.
