I WONDER how many innocent deaths it takes before Queensland and indeed Australia’s lawmakers understand restrainin­g orders are no more effective than our revolving door bail policy.

What naivety makes the justice system think a serial domestic violence offender gives a hoot about a restrainin­g order.

They are breached daily and victims are dying as a result.

If someone is so violently unstable, only physical restraint will prevent more deaths and not a bunch of pink ribbons and trite, pointless “time’s up on DV” catchphras­es.

With police resources stretched to the limit, Doreen Langham’s appeals for help (C-M, Feb 25) appear to have been allocated to the “cry wolf” basket. Sadly, events proved she wasn’t raising false alarms, but her life was truly in danger.
