Bowman’s solution is Shaquero

- RAY THOMAS

SHAQUERO has the opportunity to convince Hugh Bowman to lock in the colt as his Golden Slipper ride when he contests the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.

Bowman won the Magic Millions on Shaquero and has a high opinion of the talented Chris Waller-trained colt.

But Bowman is also firstchoice jockey for Inglis Millennium winner and current $4 Golden Slipper favourite Profiteer, who runs in the Todman Stakes next week. Shaquero is at $15 in latest Slipper betting

The champion jockey, who won the Golden Slipper last year on Farnan, will soon have to make the difficult choice on which youngster he will ride in the world’s richest juvenile race at Rosehill on March 20.

Shaquero hasn’t raced since his Magic Millions win but he trialled impressively at Rosehill this month and is $2.50 favourite for the Skyline Stakes.

“He’s a serious Golden Slipper contender,’’ Bowman said of Shaquero.

“I haven’t been on him since he won the Magic Millions but he did win that with authority.

‘’I want to see how he measures up on Saturday and I will be interested in Chris’ thoughts on the colt.’’
