Hewson settles on lawsuit

- PERRY DUFFIN

FORMER Liberal leader John Hewson has settled his defamation case against Nine and A Current Affair after claiming they portrayed him as a dishonest executive who “dudded” storm victims.

Dr Hewson, now chairman of GSA Insurance Brokers, sued the network, presenter Tracy Grimshaw and a journalist after a re- port about a couple who were struggling to get an insurance payout in mid-2020. A lawyer for Dr Hewson yesterday rday told the Federal Court the lawsuit had “settled on confidential terms”.

Dr Hewson (inset) had claimed A Current Affair portrayed him as “dishonestly” refusing to pay out Storage King North Parramatta customers Nicole and Adrian Dolahenty after their storage unit flooded.

He also claimed Ms Grimshaw’s conduct was “seriously dishonest” when the show “gratuitously” ran 27-year old footage of his famous birthday cake interview – where Dr Hewson appeared to struggle to explain if a cake would cost more or less under his planned GST.
