IF COLUMNIST Peter Gleeson is right (C-M, Apr 12), the only people or groups paying $30 per kilo for tomatoes will be those to whom money is no object and the high-class restaurants, which are probably charging the equivalent in their already expensive side salads.

If such predictions become reality, you can expect the television home gardening shows to include segments related to growing tomatoes as the cheaper alternative.

On the positive side, the home-grown tomatoes will probably be tastier.
