FINE dining Sunshine Coast restaurant The Long Apron at Spicers Clovelly in Maleny has a new chef.


Andrew Birse has taken over the pans at the award-winning restaurant after former head chef Chris Hagan left to run Noosa’s popular Locale Italian eatery.

Mr Birse was sous chef at Brisbane’s acclaimed Arc Dining at Howard Smith Wharves before it closed and has also rattled pans at Malt Dining and E’cco Bistro.

He has been working hard on creating new menus with The Long Apron now running an autumn fivecourse degustatio­n seven nights a week, including confit duck leg with plum and root vegetables and venison with Jerusalem artichoke.

Also celebratin­g ng a new gig is award- winning sommelier Shawn Gomes (pictured). The wine expert has left his role as general manager r of Brisbane’s Donna nna Chang and Boom mBoom Boom Izakaya to become operations manager at Fortitude Valley’s prized Cru Bar.

With Cru boasting a gongclaimi­ng wine list, Mr Gomes is excited to get stuck into the cellar.
