READING Mike O’Connor’s column (C-M, Apr 13), dots and swirls were forming before my eyes as I tried to comprehend the ridiculousness of the uproar over the winning entry in a bra design competition resembling Aboriginal designs.

It seems we are scraping the bottom of the barrel if Aboriginal culture is offended by freedom of expression in artistic endeavours.

Time, energy and committed consultation with the government and Aboriginal elders, along with their own community, should be given to the seriousness of life-threatening issues to improve lifestyle.

Honing in on a bra competition will achieve none of those things, nor will threats for innocently using swirls and dots achieve harmony and save lives.
