Mugatoo ready for big clash

HUGH Bowman believes Mugatoo will need to take his game to new heights and “run the race of his life” to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Saturday.

Bowman (pictured) knows better than most what it takes to win the race after four previous victories.

He played the role of the hunted for three of those victories aboard Winx from 2017 to 2019 and captured the race for the first time in 2013 on Reliable Man.

On Saturday Bowman will be the hunter aboard All-Star Mile winner Mugatoo, on the quick back-up from a fourth placing in last weekend’s Doncaster Mile.

Mugatoo will meet a worldclass field, including defending champion Addeybb, Verry Elleegant and Sir Dragonet.

“He has probably got to run the race of his life but he has had the preparation to do it,” Bowman said.

“He is only fourth up, he is yet to run beyond a mile (this time in training).

“Sir Dragonet is obviously a Cox Plate winner but you could make a case that Mugatoo was unlucky not to win that himself when he had no luck.

“The two are obviously Verry Elleegant and Addeybb.”
