Robert Stein Mudgee Half Dry Riesling (RS15) 2018, $35. RS is residual sugar, to go with your residual anger over airline intransigence, and if 15 sounds a lot, it isn’t. This is incredibly more-ish and still delicious straight. 9.2/10. Robert Stein Mudgee Dry Riesling 2018, $30. Geez, sugar is expensive in Mudgee if this is $5 cheaper! I don’t have a sweet tooth at all but maybe that five bucks is worth it ... lovely but not quite as alluring. 9/10. Flowstone Margaret River Chardonnay, 2015, $55. A few wines arouse excitement when they arrive and this is one. I get excited about them all, but Flowstone always rewards that optimism. 9.3/10. Flowstone Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, $74. Flowing stone makes about as much noise as an electric car, and both should be encouraged. Typically stylish WA cab, with a touch of added spice. 9.2/10.
Norfolk Rise Vineyard Mount Benson Pinot Grigio 2018, $19. This is bright and cheery beside the dull, bitterness of average gris. An optimistic pinot versus the pessimist. 8.8/10. Norfolk Rise Vineyard Mount Benson Shiraz 2017, $19. We used to wreak havoc with our Benson burners in chem lessons. Haha, well, that's close enough and this has that slightly burnt oak air about it. 8.9/10.
