Little William Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2015, $40. Little William is the English translation of the family name of the makers, Guglielmino, which sounds uncannily like a grape variety. Good things come in small ... Williams. 9.3/10. Little William Adelaide Hills Montepulciano 2015, $40. Wow, that’s old for a Monte’, and you can taste the experience ... or experience the taste. Delightful and would love to see what it’s like in 2021. 9.2/10. Church Road Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2017, $27. They’re a religious lot in Hawkes Bay but this would be better with a cheese plate than a collection plate. Save your palate before your soul. 9/10. Church Road Hawkes Bay (NZ) Pinot Gris 2018, $26. This is a fairly pricey gris and lovers of the bittersweet grape will go silly for it, and sillier the more they imbibe. 8.8/10. Robert Oatley Margaret River Winemakers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, $23. A big-name wine figure thought this was the bee’s knees. I couldn’t go that far, maybe the bee’s ankles. Almost as worthy, perhaps a bee’s whisker in it. 9.1/10. Robert Oatley Margaret River Winemakers Reserve Chardonnay 2017, $23. This is older school chardonnay so invite your granny or an old girlfriend and they will love you … and the wine. 8.8/10.
