Complying development legislation restricts the size of the granny flat to 60sq m, but that doesn’t mean the designs need to feel small.

Wally Gebrael from Granny Flat Solutions says most of their granny flats (pictured) have two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and laundry. They also include appliances, floor coverings, light fittings, paint as well as separate metering for ease of use.

He says the granny flats that work best have good living areas. Big kitchens with a breakfast bar can take up a lot of space while straight-line kitchens open up the space a lot more.

Rather than having one fixed display granny flat, Granny Flat Solutions open a different granny flat each weekend.
