THE GUTTERS — AND STAYING SAFE

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - Home - - FOCUS -

Whether you’re home or away for the holidays, most of us are keen to take a few precautions to keep our homes safe.

While it’s no one’s favourite task, clearing the gutters at this time of year is good practice, especially if you are planning on going away after Christmas.

Clear gutters will lessen the impact of extreme weather events such as storms, floods and even bushfire.

If there are access issues or you don’t have the right equipment, this might be just the job to outsource to a professional with appropriate insurance.

If you are planning on taking a holiday after Christmas, check the security of your doors and windows and consider installing exterior sensor lights.

Timers for lamps, lights and radios are a relatively cheap investment to give the appearance that someone is home while you’re away. If you can, ask a neighbour or friend to drop by the property to make sure everything is as it should be.
