Four pedes­tri­ans struck in crash

TWO peo­ple, one of them a child, were fight­ing for life in hos­pi­tal last night af­ter an ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing a car and a group of pedes­tri­ans in Syd­ney’s north­west.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the scene on Ha­zlett Rd at Kel­lyville shortly af­ter 9.30pm. All four pedes­tri­ans in­jured in the ac­ci­dent were taken to West­mead Hos­pi­tal.

A team of paramedics were rushed to the scene in a he­li­copter to as­sist, with two of the vic­tims in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion and two of the pedes­tri­ans in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

A young child hurt in the ac­ci­dent was rushed to The Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal at West­mead and was re­ported to be crit­i­cally ill last night. It is un­der­stood the child was placed in an in­duced coma by paramedics at the scene of the ac­ci­dent be­fore they were con­veyed to the hos­pi­tal.

Another vic­tim, a 56-yearold woman, with se­ri­ous leg in­juries was treated at the scene be­fore be­ing taken to hos­pi­tal.

In­ves­ti­gat­ing po­lice were ex­am­in­ing a white SUV with ex­ten­sive dam­age to its bon­net at the scene last night.

Ha­zlett Rd was closed to traf­fic in both di­rec­tions for sev­eral hours af­ter the in­ci­dent while crash in­ves­ti­ga­tors ex­am­ined the in­ci­dent.

A po­lice spokes­woman said the driver of the ve­hi­cle in­volved in the ac­ci­dent was as­sist­ing po­lice with their in­quiries.

The driver was set to un­dergo manda­tory blood and al­co­hol test­ing late last night.
