Pair fighting for life
Four pedestrians struck in crash
TWO people, one of them a child, were fighting for life in hospital last night after an accident involving a car and a group of pedestrians in Sydney’s northwest.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Hazlett Rd at Kellyville shortly after 9.30pm. All four pedestrians injured in the accident were taken to Westmead Hospital.
A team of paramedics were rushed to the scene in a helicopter to assist, with two of the victims in a critical condition and two of the pedestrians in a stable condition.
A young child hurt in the accident was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and was reported to be critically ill last night. It is understood the child was placed in an induced coma by paramedics at the scene of the accident before they were conveyed to the hospital.
Another victim, a 56-yearold woman, with serious leg injuries was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
Investigating police were examining a white SUV with extensive damage to its bonnet at the scene last night.
Hazlett Rd was closed to traffic in both directions for several hours after the incident while crash investigators examined the incident.
A police spokeswoman said the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was assisting police with their inquiries.
The driver was set to undergo mandatory blood and alcohol testing late last night.
