Pope stands up to Mafia

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - World -

PALERMO: Pope Francis has denounced the Mafia’s “blasphemous” existence during a brief trip to Sicily to honour a priest murdered by the Mob 25 years ago.

“You can’t believe in God and belong to the Mafia. Those who belong to the Mafia don’t lead a Christian existence because their lives are blasphemous,” he said at an open-air mass near Palermo. “Change! Stop thinking about yourselves and your money, convert,” he said to athe gathering of 100,000 who came to honour Father Giuseppe “Pino” Puglisi, who was shot dead in 1993.
