1 A blue ute mounts the foot­path near JB Hi-Fi in Bourke St and ex­plodes at 4.10pm on Fri­day 2 The at­tacker gets out of the car and stabs one per­son to death and two oth­ers in the up­per body 3 Po­lice ar­rive about 4.30pm and ap­proach the at­tacker on Bourke St, try­ing to dis­arm him 4 A by­stander pushes a trol­ley at the at­tacker, while an­other man ap­proaches with the bot­tom of a traf­fic cone 5 A po­lice of­fi­cer tries to knock the knife from the at­tacker’s hand but steps back. A sec­ond of­fi­cer draws his weapon and fires one shot at the man’s chest 6 The at­tacker falls to the ground 7 A po­lice of­fi­cer, with the help of a sec­ond per­son, hand­cuffs the at­tacker 8 Paramedics treat the man at the scene and he is taken to hos­pi­tal un­der po­lice guard, where he died 9 Three other peo­ple are taken to hos­pi­tal, one with a crit­i­cal neck in­jury, an­other with a head in­jury and the third in an un­known con­di­tion. Po­lice place a sheet over the body of a per­son near cor­ner of Bourke St and Rus­sell Pl 10 Shops are in lock­down, with po­lice warn­ing peo­ple to stay away from the area.
