SCHOOL BOSS IN FRAUD CASE

A TRIAL date has been set for a for­mer state ed­u­ca­tion de­part­ment boss charged with con­spir­ing to steal mil­lions of dol­lars from pub­lic schools.

For­mer Vic­to­rian ed­u­ca­tion de­part­ment head Nino Napoli, his cousin Carlo Squil­la­ci­oti, brother Robert Napoli and sis­ter-in-law Do­minica Napoli faced the County Court of Vic­to­ria yes­ter­day. Their ap­pear­ance fol­lowed ac­cu­sa­tions that at least $1.9 mil­lion was chan­nelled to Napoli’s fam­ily and as­so­ci­ates be­tween 2007 and 2014. Nino is charged with mul­ti­ple of­fences, in­clud­ing con­spir­acy to de­fraud, deal­ing with pro­ceeds of crime, fur­nish­ing false doc­u­ments, and per­vert­ing the course of jus­tice.

The mat­ter will re­turn to court on March 8.
