Metro line pulls in early
THE $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest railway line is set to open in April at least $500 million under budget.
The first driverless train completed the entire 36km journey from Tallawong station in Sydney’s northwest to Chatswood yesterday, as part of a rigorous testing process. About 19,000km of train testing has already taken place, with onboard train systems, signalling, braking and acceleration all to be tested soon. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the Metro line will be able to transport 30,000 to 40,000 people per hour during peak periods.
