Metro line pulls in early

THE $8.3 bil­lion Syd­ney Metro North­west rail­way line is set to open in April at least $500 mil­lion un­der bud­get.

The first driver­less train com­pleted the en­tire 36km jour­ney from Talla­wong sta­tion in Syd­ney’s north­west to Chatswood yes­ter­day, as part of a rig­or­ous test­ing process. About 19,000km of train test­ing has al­ready taken place, with on­board train sys­tems, sig­nalling, brak­ing and ac­cel­er­a­tion all to be tested soon. Premier Gla­dys Bere­jik­lian said the Metro line will be able to trans­port 30,000 to 40,000 peo­ple per hour dur­ing peak pe­ri­ods.
