Keep calm & carry on

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - News -

POWER outages may become more common in parts of Australia but the federal government should “keep calm”, according to a new report.

Generation shortfalls cause just 0.1 per cent of power outages and the Grattan Institute has urged state and federal government’s not to “goldplate” poles and wires, warning it would send prices soaring.

And report author Tony Wood said the federal government’s plans to underwrite new dispatchable power plants and build the Snowy 2.0 expansion were misguided. “That spooks the investors, because if investors think if every time something goes wrong the government will invest, then they won’t invest,” he said.
