Power back on after freak storm

The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) - - News -

POWER has been restored to thousands of homes across Sydney and the Illawarra after Friday’s thunderstorms inflicted widespread damage to more than 40,000 properties.

Crews from Endeavour Energy have worked around the clock over the weekend to get the network back up and running after the storm sparked almost 400 electrical hazards.

Properties in North Parramatta, Granville, Parramatta, Baulkham Hills and Blacktown were the last to get their power restored late yesterday.

“We would like to thank all affected customers for their patience and goodwill over the past two days,” an Endeavour Energy spokesman said.

Nine people needed to be rescued as flash flooding in parts of Western Sydney turned intersections into lakes.

Parramatta was one of the hardest-hit suburbs, with the majority of outages and calls to the SES coming from the area.

In total there were about 1100 calls for help made to the SES.
