Jon Lamonte served for 32 years in the British Royal Air Force, retiring as Air Vice-Marshal.
Conducted operational flying in the Falklands, Yugoslavia and in the first Gulf War, and later managed procurement of aircraft carriers, tanks and submarines.
Left the air force in 2011 to become chief executive of Tube Lines, which was responsible for upgrading three lines on the London Underground before the 2012 Olympics.
In 2013 he became chief executive of Transport for Greater Manchester, where he was responsible for expanding the network.
Headhunted by Sydney Metro Trains in late 2018.
