Jon La­monte served for 32 years in the British Royal Air Force, re­tir­ing as Air Vice-Mar­shal.

Con­ducted op­er­a­tional fly­ing in the Falk­lands, Yu­goslavia and in the first Gulf War, and later man­aged pro­cure­ment of air­craft car­ri­ers, tanks and sub­marines.

Left the air force in 2011 to be­come chief ex­ec­u­tive of Tube Lines, which was re­spon­si­ble for up­grad­ing three lines on the London Un­der­ground be­fore the 2012 Olympics.

In 2013 he be­came chief ex­ec­u­tive of Trans­port for Greater Manch­ester, where he was re­spon­si­ble for ex­pand­ing the net­work.

Head­hunted by Syd­ney Metro Trains in late 2018.
