Funds needed for fireworks

- BY SARAH DEAN

As the end of the year draws near, residents are being encouraged to dig deep for the community funded fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.

The Rotary Club of Corowa is again co-ordinating the funding and has collection tins at local businesses and at its monthly market in Bangerang Park.

Chairman of the Fireworks Committee Paul Miegel said it was that time of year again when fund-raising for the special event needed to be ramped up.

“For the fireworks to continue to happen, it is imperative that local businesses and the community in general get behind it,” he said.

“Residents and businesses alike have been supportive in the past and we thank them for this.”

The last two years have seen great fireworks displays on John Foord Oval, with the children’s fireworks display from 9.30pm and the main event at midnight.

Feedback from the past two shows has been positive, with one visitor from Sydney saying they will be back next year.

The displays for the past two years have occurred because of three significant sponsors in Ricky D’s Pizza, who is again on board with a $5000 donation, Corowa RSL Club and Rivalea who have sponsored the children’s displays.

Donations can also be made directly into the Rotary Club’s Fireworks Account - BSB: 082-559 Account No: 246378185, or by cheque made payable to Rotary Club of Corowa Fireworks and mailed to P.O. Box 153 Corowa, or at the front counter of the Federation Council offices, where a receipt from the club will be issued.

Businesses making donations of $500 or more will be listed on the donations meter at the bottom of Sanger Street and thanked in the Free Press and individuals donating $100 or more will also receive the same recognition.

Businesses with fireworks collection tins include; The Guy Street store, Sultans Turkish Restaurant, Green Bean Cafe, Civic Cafe, Corowa Newsagent, The Australia Hotel, Meat on the Murray Butcher, Gourmet Butcher, Corowa Takeaway, Ricki D’s Pizza, Corowa Furniture, Wahgunyah Store and Fuel, Corowa Bakery, Corowa Hotel, Corowa Chinese, Newmarket Hotel, Empire Hotel, Amber Rose, South Corowa Store, Tourist Information Centre, Corowa Chocolate and Whisky Factory, Corowa Dry Cleaners, Federation Council Office (front desk) and Corowa Furnishings and Floors.
