The Free Press (Corowa) - - FRONT PAGE - BY ROBERT MUIR

Draft council policies for Section 355 committees and public art strategy are on public display for 28 days, until July 20 and submissions are invited from the public.

Section 355 committees are specifically delegated some of Federation Council’s functions to manage facilities or functions and have been reviewed following the merger of Urana and Corowa Shires.

The committees are effectively a volunteer extension of council.

Committee members are required to adhere to council’s code of conduct, meeting practice and other corporate governance policies. Each committee will have its own Terms of Reference.

Membership may include councillors, representatives of government departments, community organisations, sporting bodies and the general public.

Council’s public art strategy provides a framework for effective management of public art and delivery of best outcomes for the community from aesthetic, functional and economic perspectives.

“Good public art, design and architecture can create a unique community identity that informs the sense of peace and creates iconic branding of the council area,” council’s director corporate and community services Kristy Kay said.
