Cats found out in tough conditions

The Free Press (Corowa) - - CLASSIES (03) CLASSIES -

Up to Beechworth for an important game that had been moved from the long weekend.

With the way the weather was the guys would have been a lot happier to play the Round 9 game back on the June long weekend.

Kicking with the aid of the breeze in the first quarter, the Cats didn’t make the most of the advantage and even though we kept the Bushies goalless we only put on two goals ourselves.

In the second quarter Beechworth showed us why they are always tough to beat up there as they handled the conditions much better than us and piled on five goals to our none to take control.

After the long break the Cats worked hard but the Bushies had their tails up and handled the wet, wild and windy conditions a lot better than us and gave the Cats a wet weather football lesson.

The backline worked hard and was led well by one of the young guys Michael Cooper, coach Wilson did his best to lift the guys but full credit to the Bushies who simply out played us.

Awards: Greg Leahy Remedial Massage - Michael Cooper, Complete Body Craft Damien Wilson, Corowa Golf Club - Tom Quinn, Poaches Paradise Hotel - Sam Fiedler, Rutherglen Pizza - Ryan Jones, Hungry Jacks Barnawartha - Tom Maloney, Auction Player Michael Cooper.

Our Reserves handled the freezing conditions better than Beechworth and came home with the four points after a very good 36-point win.

Rhys Renshaw and Shaun Moore both adapted to the conditions well and the return of Nathan Waite certainly was beneficial to the team. Brandon Johnson again got plenty of the ball and the experience of Matt Farrugia was priceless.

Both our junior grades didn’t get the results they were after, but fort hard in very trying conditions with the score board not being a true indication of both games.
