Tarramia’s strong interest

-

The recent sale of the McPherson family’s renowned Tarramia Estate on Lake Mulwala may have been an exception but a good example of the interest in farmland in the area.

The 1994-hectare grazing and cropping property with its 150-year-old homestead sold for more than $10 million earlier this year.

It was acquired by the Bourhcier’s, a large southern NSW faring family based in Oaklands and Urana.

Yarrawonga Elders Real Estate’s Xavier Leslie said there was a lot of interest in the property both locally and further afield with 13 confirmed bids exceeding agents’ pre-sale expectations.

“This was a unique and prestigious property that is rarely on the market,” Xavier Leslie said.

“With four kilometres of Lake Mulwala frontage and just under 5,000 acres on the fringe of town it was certainly unique,” he said.

Tarramia was offered for freehold sale inclusive of the building improvements and water rights as a broadacre farming opportunity as a whole of 1,994 hectares or 4,997 acres (which included land to the south which extends into Lake Mulwala).

It is understood the Bourchiers will use Tarramia, which has four kilometres of Lake Mulwala frontage, to expand their farming operations.

Mr Bourchier’s late father Harry was reportedly one of the largest private landowners in Victoria, running a mixed-farming operation including cropping and beef.
