Community groups to share in $76,000
Indigo Shire Council has announced the successful recipients of $76,000 in funding for community, event and festival grants.
Rutherglen Agriculture Society, Rutherglen Boomerang Bags, Wahgunyah Senior Citizens Club, Rutherglen Christmas Decoration Project and the Wahgunyah Tennis Club are all part of the 41 organisations that will receive funding for a range of projects and events across the shire.
The grants include $50,000 as part of the Community Grants Program and $26,000 as part of the Festival and Events Grants Program.
Indigo Shire Mayor Cr Jenny O’Connor said the grants program supports the fantastic work of a variety of community groups and organisations across the shire.
“Some examples of successful community projects include training for junior fire brigade members; facility and equipment upgrades for a variety of sporting clubs; support for sustainability initiatives like boomerang bags and others,” Cr O’Connor said.
“Our festival and events program provides support for innovation and growth for existing events and encouraging and supporting new festivals and events in the Shire.
“Events receiving funding this year span music, arts, food and wine, mountain biking and more.”
Festivals and events are key tourism drivers in Indigo Shire, with conservative economic modelling demonstrating the Shire’s festivals contribute turnover of approximately $17 million to Indigo Shire’s economy each year. In addition to grant funding, council also provides logistics support with road management and waste collection and other support.
“We wish all our grant recipients every success and we look forward to seeing the projects come to fruition,” Cr O’Connor said.
