Corowa Festival of Dance success
Other events included a party dance, the festival ball, an afternoon tea dance and a festival dinner that was catered by the Corowa RSL Club.
A new dance was released, waltz evermore, choreographed by Anthony Pepers of Enjoy Dance. Anthony Pepers is a local accredited dance teacher and competition judge, while he also hosts local dance classes in Corowa at the RSL Club every Wednesday from 6.30pm.
Geoff Mallows, President of the Corowa Festival of Dance Committee said that this year’s festival was the best one yet.
High quality live music is a feature of this festival with the drawcard Tony Gilbert sound providing music for the weekend.
The Tony Gilbert sound released a special Corowa Festival of Dance music CD at the festival.
Mr Mallows said that this year’s Festival of Dance Committee moved to online ticketing for the events.
Dancers were scanned into the events with ease. Approximately 80 per cent of the dancers purchased tickets online with the remaining booking tickets via the Tourism office at the Federation Council.
Geoff credits the success of the Corowa Festival of Dance to a strong committee, and the support of the Federation Council and the Corowa RSL Club, while many small businesses also support the festival.
“We are thankful for all the support provided by locals for this event,” Mr Mallows said.
The Corowa Hockey Club provided the catering for the events held at the Memorial Hall this year, they did an amazing job.
John and Andrea Barwick are local Corowa Dance champions and they choreographed and taught the Santorini waltz. They were awarded the Federation Council Community Achievement Award on Australia Day this year.
John and Andrea have supported the Corowa Festival of Dance for many years by running dance workshops and through roles on the committee.
Mr Mallows said the committee has already started planning the 2019 Corowa Festival of Dance which will be on the NSW Labour long weekend commencing Thursday, October 3 and ending on Monday, October 7.
A very successful festival was held in Corowa, commencing on Thursday, October 4 with a welcome dance and concluding on Monday, October 8 with the fantasy dance, where dancers dressed in fancy dress for the night.
Dancers enjoyed a mix of dance genres.
Couples were encouraged to come in fancy dress on fancy dress night.
The fancy dress theme was popular at this year’s festival. This couple went with a wine theme.
