Mount Beauty too strong for Corowa
First grade played the ever dangerous Mt Beauty on Saturday at Ball Park. The Power won the toss and batted.
Kaelan Bradtke struck early with two quick wickets before the evergreen Ranaweera and Jenvey settled the innings.
Dan Athanitis bowled with great control as the Corowa team started to get on top in the middle to late overs.
A steady flow of wickets from the tight bowling saw Mt Beauty all out with two balls to spare on 168 from 44.5.
Athanitis finished with 5/21 from nine and KB Bradtke 3/25 from five overs. Ground fielding from the young team was again very good.
The wicket was playing beautifully and early going looked very positive with the home team 0/62. Jordan Eyers’ (19) dismissal rocked the middle order though as we lost 4/5 to be 4/67.
Kodee Lowe batted very well also, contributing with 36. Will Seymour, Nathan Rhodes and then Athanitis again settled things.
At 4/101 with plenty of overs to spare things looked comfortable but wily bowling from the experienced team saw Corowa all out for 132.
All in all it was a pretty poor effort given the positions we were in during the course of the day.
Scores: Corowa 132 (38.1 overs) – J Styles 1/21, A Ranaweera 3/19, AJ Brewergray 5/40 def by Mt Beauty 9/168 (44.5 overs) – K Bradtke 3/25, L Backhouse 1/16, D Athanitis 5/21.
B Grade Under 14s
B Grade went down in their clash with Mount Beauty at Mount Beauty.
Winning the toss and batting, the Roos lost Josh Closter and Ryan Beveridge early and when Michael Linklater went for 18 the Roos were in trouble at 3/35.
Captain Scott Wilson played a very good innings and, with the help from Ryan Eyers (12) and Cath Wood (10), got the Roos into a good position at 4/111.
But the Roos lost three quick wickets including Wilson’s for a well-made 57. The Roos ended up making 147 after being bowled out in the last over, which appeared to be few short.
Aaron Phibbs made a great start with an early wicket in the first over, but the Roos’ total looked a bit short as Mount Beauty quickly sent about chasing it down.
Phibbs got a second wicket to have Mount Beauty at 2/32 but the game quickly went out of the Roos’ reach as the next wicket didn’t fall until 88 runs on the board in the 20th over.
The Roos got two late wickets but Mount Beauty was able to pass the score in the 33rd over. Phibbs recorded the best figures with 2/16 off five overs. This week sees the side have a bye.
A brutal century by Liam McDonell as enabled C Grade to have their first win of the season over New City at Norris Park.
Batting first, McDonell was on fire from the start of the innings hitting a six in the second over and continued to hit another 13 sixes in his innings and six boundaries, but his brilliant innings finished in the 19th over for a terrific 132, with the team score only at 152.
Liam Carter and Billy Raggett continued the onslaught before Raggett went for 20 and then Carter for a well-made 63.
Josh Bartlett made a quick-fire 46 as the Roos finished their 40 overs at 7/303.
McDonell’s brilliant day continued as he wreaked the top order of New City taking 3/13 off eight overs to reduce New City to 4/21.
Bailey Minogue bowled well later in the innings to also collect 3/13 as New City batted out their overs to make 9/149.
This week sees the side take on North Albury in Corowa.
