Funding boost for youth project
Corowa District Landcare is to receive $40,000 to engage young leaders in an environmentally focussed wetland project.
Member for Albury Justin Clancy announced the funding last Friday as part of the
NSW Government’s $1.5 million Youth Opportunities program.
“Young people are the lifeblood of our towns and this program is about giving them more opportunities to be active and engaged members of the community,” Mr Clancy said.
“The Youth Opportunities program keeps young people engaged with their community in a meaningful way and lets them drive projects that they can be proud of.”
Participants of the Corowa District Landcare wetlands project will be mentored and trained by experienced community leaders and will be involved with revegetation projects to help create habitat for threatened and endangered species.
Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said 35 projects state-wide received up to $50,000 each through the program.
“We want all young people to be engaged and active members of their communities and these grants foster exciting new initiatives to make that happen,” Mr Ward said.
“Young people are our State’s greatest asset and we are working hard to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to make our communities stronger and better places to live.”
Since the NSW Government established the Youth Opportunities program in 2012, almost $13.3 million has been invested in 282 projects.
