Memorial Service for Maggie OAM

A Memorial Service for Maggie Fitzgibbon OAM, who passed away on June 3, 2020, was held in the Wahgunyah School of Arts last Saturday afternoon.

Maggie’s niece Nichaud Fitzgibbon delivered the eulogy of “an amazing powerhouse of a woman”.

Nichaud gave a wonderful presentati­on of the life of the star internatio­nal stage, screen and Wahgunyah star of Margaret Helen Fitzgibbon, who moved to Quondong Wahgunyah in 1978 and was quoted in The Free Press story of June 17, 2020.

About 50 people attended the service. After a welcome to all by Gordon Mackinlay, a photograph presentati­on with songs of Maggie’s was followed by a video message Memoirs from Dr Ian Gutheridge, then Memoirs from Theatre Critic, Gerald Mayhead, read by Alfred Abbatangel­o, Memoirs from Bettina Guthridge (Maggie’s cousin), Message from Maggie’s best friends from early days at London’s Talk of The Town Cabaret, Valerie Walsh and Jean King, read by Bettina Gutheridge.

Emmanuel Baldachinn­o sang My Way with images of theatre life. Following refreshmen­ts it was Scottish Piper Bruce Meagher performing Song Skye Boat Song and Amazing Grace. At 5.00pm it was scattering of Maggie’s and Minnie’s Ashes at The Barn.
