Spirited Felines go down to Panthers
On Sunday, the Felines ventured to Lavington to take on the top of the ladder Lavington Panthers in the under 14 and under 17 competition. highlight being a great smother which stopped a goal.
With a lot of our girls out today our girls still worked all together with a lot of new girls on the field. Kaity Ford got in with the tackles and laid some terrific smothers, one that ended up with a smack to the face and an unfortunate blood nose.
Layla Barnes and Jacinta Fisher being some of our younger ones really stood their ground and showed how to win the ball.
In the end, the Lavington team were too good for the gallant young Felines. However, once again the team showed great spirit and determination in playing out to the final siren. the Under 17s came out a different team after half time and took the game right back up to the Panthers.
Some slick ball movement from the centre square set up Anjo Bigger for a great team goal. This was followed up with another great goal from the square by the Felines.
Paige Duffy created a lot of drive from the back line supported by Georgia Thomas and Kirra Shepherdson.
Ava Loughnan, Yasmine Budic and Mietta Habets worked hard in the midfield. With the quick two goals, the Felines were back in the match. However, the Panthers were able to steady with two late goals.
In the last quarter, the Felines put in another great effort but once again the Panthers had the answers and were able to score two last quarter goals to run out comfortable winners.
However, the final scoreboard did not do justice the even tussle all match. With many females playing their first year of football, it was still a great performance by the team, and they are still on the performance rise, each match they play.
