Double glory for New Norfolk bowlers
NEW Norfolk lawn bowlers enjoyed great success last weekend when their Division 3 and 4 sides were both succsseful in their respective grand finals, bringing home dual premierships to the proud club.
The successful sides will now go on to represent the South in the State Pennant finals in Hobart this weekend.
Div 3 played against Beltana at Sandy Bay, who they had lost to the previous week in the second semifinal, reversing the result to win ( 81-65 ) with 2 and 1/2 rinks to 1 and 1/2.
The team of George Menzie (S), Paul Smith, Ian Maddox, and Ron Walsh, in his 50th year of bowls, opened up a match winning lead 11-1 by six ends, and winning 14 of 21 ends on the way to 24-13 victory.
While John Catt (S), Chris Smith, Michael Cook and Clive Greenough, trailed 5-8 at six ends, before winning six ends in a row to move to 17-8 at 12 ends, and controlling the game from there to win 22-16.
Tim Morgan (S), Grant Triffitt, Larry Hill, Brett Nunn, slipped to 0-10 by 4 ends, and trailed 5-15 at 10, and 9-19 at 15,then a dominant performance over the last 6 ends saw them fight back to draw at 20-20.
Mick Quinn (S), Neville Wigg, David Briggs, Bricky Eiszele, won 11 of 21 ends in a tight game, 3-5 at 5 ends,7-8 at 10,11-10 at 15, and finishing 15-16
PREMIERS: New Norfolk’s successful Division 4 lawn bowls team was one of two sides from the local club to win grand finals at the weekend.
