Big crowd for market kids’ day
MORE than 1000 people attended the inaugural New Norfolk High Street Market kids’ day on the weekend.
Co-ordinator Jessica Cosgrove said the free community event, held on Saturday, was a great success.
Among the highlights on the day were face painters, balloonists, food, music, a pantomime performed by the Derwent Valley Players, and activities and entertainment provided by the Ptunarra Child and Family Centre, Derwent Valley Future Action Team, and Derwent Valley Salvation Army.
“Obviously the weather was amazing, it reached 30C in New Norfolk and we had approximately 1000-plus people attend,” Ms Cosgrove said.
“It was so nice just to see so many children happy and having a wonderful time.
“They all had smiles on their faces.”
Magra Fire Brigade volunteers proved a hit with the young ones.
“They let children try on their uniforms, spray some water, [and] hop in the trucks and have their photos taken,” Ms Cosgrove said.
Ms Cosgrove would like to see an event like the kids’ day happen annually at New Norfolk.
“We had people come from all over southern Tasmania, we had people coming from Hobart as far as Ranelagh,” she said.
“We had nothing but positive feedback about it, everything flowed really well throughout the day.
“There was a great atmosphere, and it was nice to see the community all together having a wonderful time.”
