Lib­eral pledges to­tal $7.8m

WITH the state elec­tion over and the Lib­eral Party re­turned to of­fice, stake­holder groups and in­di­vid­u­als will be wait­ing ea­gerly for Lib­eral cam­paign prom­ises to ac­tu­alise.

The Lib­eral Party promised $7.8 mil­lion to the Der­went Val­ley community for var­i­ous lo­cal projects de­pen­dant on be­ing re­turned to of­fice.

The com­mit­ments in­clude: Mt Field Na­tional Park ap­proaches: Im­prove Glenora Rd, in­clud­ing the sur­face qual­ity, road edg­ing and drainage. ($2.5 mil­lion, no time frame spec­i­fied). New Po­lice Sta­tion for New Nor­folk: Pro­vide an aroundthe-clock per­ma­nent po­lice pres­ence in the New Nor­folk area and build a new sta­tion to house four ex­tra of­fi­cers ($0 in 2017-18; $2.5 mil­lion in 2018-19; and $2.5 mil­lion 2019-20). Boyer Oval grand­stand up­grades: $100,000 (no time frame spec­i­fied). New Nor­folk se­cu­rity cam­eras: Ad­di­tional cam­eras in the town cen­tre ($50,000, no time frame spec­i­fied). Der­went Val­ley PCYC: Pro­vide sup­port to­wards pro­grams and ac­tiv­i­ties, and de­velop a sus­tain­able busi­ness model ($60,000 in 2017-18 fi­nan­cial year). New Nor­folk Bus Ser­vice Boost: Bus ser­vices from New Nor­folk to Ho­bart will be in­creased by 55 per week. The 25 cur­rent week­day ser­vices will in­crease to 34 per day with 23 ser­vices on Satur­days and 13 on Sun­days. The sys­tem is ex­pected to be rolled out by 2019-20. New Nor­folk Youth Drop-in Cen­tre: Sup­port to­wards new fur­ni­ture and equip­ment ($8000 in 2017-18 fi­nan­cial year). New Nor­folk Men’s Shed: Sup­port to­wards build­ing works ($12,000 in 2017-18 fi­nan­cial year). Ma­gra CWA: Sup­port to­wards sculpt­ing An­zac fig­ures from two macro­carpa trees out­side the old Ma­gra school for the Ma­gra branch of the Coun­try Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion ($15,000 in 2017-18 fi­nan­cial year). Ma­gra CWA: Sup­port to­wards a new heat pump ($8000 in 2017-18 fi­nan­cial year). Der­went Val­ley Rail­way: Ac­cess to a sec­tion of the Der­went Val­ley Line be­tween the Back River Rd and Third Ave level cross­ings, to un­der­take nec­es­sary track works in the im­me­di­ate vicin­ity of New Nor­folk Sta­tion ($25,000 as soon as pos­si­ble af­ter the elec­tion). Hamil­ton Agri­cul­tural Show: In­fra­struc­ture up­dates in­clud­ing new seat­ing and dis­play ar­eas ($15,000, no time frame spec­i­fied). Bushy Park Show So­ci­ety: New equip­ment ($12,000, no time frame spec­i­fied).
