Dog lovers get things yap­pen­ing

A GROUP of dog lovers is lead­ing the charge to form a new Dog Walk­ing As­so­ci­a­tion in the Der­went Val­ley.

A com­mit­tee of pas­sion­ate so­cial walk­ers will hold its in­au­gu­ral meet­ing this Sun­day, where mem­bers will dis­cuss ideas about the safest dog walk­ing ar­eas in the Val­ley.

Der­went Val­ley Dog Walk­ing As­so­ci­a­tion’s Stephanie Tabram said the group aimed to bring to­gether com­mu­nity res­i­dents and their ca­nine com­pan­ions to pro­mote so­cial and emo­tional wellness while ex­er­cis­ing.

“Our aim is to en­cour­age ev­ery­one to have fun, love their dogs and en­joy our beau­ti­ful Val­ley,” Ms Tabram said.

“We in­tend to hold so­cial walks and events for mem­bers through­out the Val­ley, the first be­ing at Tyn­wald Park Walk on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 14, at 10am.”

Ms Tabram said the so­cial group of walk­ers aimed to cre­ate a com­mit­tee sim­i­lar to other dog walk­ing groups around Ho­bart.

“We hope to have a voice at coun­cil with the aim of help­ing make avail­able safe dog ar­eas within our com­mu­nity,” Ms Tabram said. “We want to pro­mote re­spon­si­ble dog own­er­ship, en­cour­age safe prac­tises, ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing.”
