Bail granted on Mt Lloyd death
A MAN, 36, has been extradited to Tasmania from Victoria to face a manslaughter charge.
Joshua George Hector Clark, of Thomastown, appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court . He did not enter a plea. Tasmania Police Detective Inspector Craig Joel said the charge related to the death of a boy, 7, at Mt Lloyd, in the Derwent Valley, on August 22, 2015.
“Police allege the 36-year- old man cut down a tree in circumstances that were dangerous and caused the death of the seven-year-old boy who was seated in a car,” Insp Joel said.
“The man was arrested on warrant in Victoria on 18 Sep- tember 2018 by Victoria Police detectives and thereafter transferred to the custody of Glenorchy CIB detectives.”
Insp Joel said the police investigation had been conducted in liaison with the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office. “The young boy’s family have been advised and will be provided with the necessary support,” he said.
Mr Clark was bailed to reappear in court on October 18.
At the time of the boy’s death, police said the boy’s mother was with her partner and three children collecting firewood. The woman was in the car with her children when a large gum tree crushed the vehicle.
The child died in hospital.
