River health in spotlight
THE health of the Lachlan River will be determined this weekend when a water bug blitz on the local waterway gets underway.
Interested patrons are invited to Tynwald Park on Saturday to take part in this year’s National Waterbug Blitz.
The event will see researchers investigate the bug life of the river to gain an insight into how healthy the water quality is.
Waterbugs, small invertebrates that live in fresh water, are known to have a certain sensitivity to pollution or water quality changes in their habitual waterway.
An indication for researchers about the water quality is often measured by the amount of waterbugs found in the river.
The event kicks off at 10am, with equipment provided.
