Sure is cool at the pool
DERWENT Valley residents can splash into summer this year after the New Norfolk pool opened its gates last month.
The public pool, which is closed through March to October, reopened on October 15 and already of keen swimmers are turning out to enjoy the water as the weather warms up.
New Norfolk Pool manager Thai Youd said it was pleasing to see the high number of school kids showing up to make a splash.
“Every day we’ve had local and out of town school groups come for learn-to-swim days, and the pool’s keeping busy with plenty of families jumping in too,” he said.
Mr Youd said it was important children were properly trained to swim as more Tasmanians get out in the water in the wrarmer months.
“It’s critical that kids learn water safety especially in a town like New Norfolk where the river is such a central part of the region,” the lifeguard said.
“Water safety is not only important for ensuring we are all looked after, but it allows us to enjoy the water more. We’re hoping the weather continues to improve and more people turn out to swim.”
After a turbulent week of extreme winds, the weather bureau says New Norfolk will remain warm through this week and weekend before a top of 21C on Monday.
