Karen Hamilton HACHETTE, RRP $30 Glenn Close’s bunny-boiling movie character looks decidedly timid up against the monster that is Juliette in her rabid obsession to make ex-lover Nate realise he’s made a huge mistake ending their romance. She just has to hatch a perfect plan to set her love story in motion. So begins an alarming degree of obsession, deception, lies and invasion of privacy. A change of career? No problem. Stalking? Check. Spying? Simple. Control? Sure thing. First-time author Karen Hamilton does a superb job creating a scorned woman with a relentless axe to grind as she juggles paranoia, infatuation, hatred and revenge. As chilling as Juliette’s behaviour becomes, and even when it seems more than a tad unrealistic, Hamilton makes sure readers are hooked. Make time to read this in one fascinating and frightening session of a woman possessed and obsessed. CARINA BRUCE VERDICT: Psycho thriller
