A WRINKLE IN TIME (PG)
DOESN’T GO BY THE BOOK, SO IT ALL GOES TO CREASES, US, 109 MIN A proper adaptation of the much-loved 1962 book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle has been a long time coming. But not everyone is going to get what the movie is driving at. Newcomer Storm Reid stars as Meg Murry, a teen who journeys into an alternate dimension to find her missing father (Chris Pine). Along the way, Meg regularly calls upon the ancient wisdom of a trio of astral guides (Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and, umm, a 50m-high Oprah Winfrey). What should have been a consummate crowd-pleaser is merely a habitual head-scratcher.
