KIRSTEN & LEE

THE COUPLE: Kirsten Grierson and Lee Hearsey THE LOVE STORY: Lee chased Kirsten for months after they first met in an elevator in their office block. “As Lee puts it, he had nine floors to talk to me and make an impression,” Kirsten says. “For 12 months he tried to bump into me in the hallway and at lunch. He finally asked me on our first date and we’ve been inseparable since.” Lee proposed to Kirsten on their two-year anniversary at the same spot they shared their first kiss. “Lee decided to recreate our first date. We went to Mandalas, a vegan restaurant, and sat at the same table. We then went for a walk to the beach and Lee asked if I remembered where we had our first kiss. Then, instead of leaning in for a kiss, he knelt on one knee. He finally asked the question I’d been longing to hear.” THE BIG DAY: The couple tied the knot on September 14 at Binna Burra Mountain Lodge, Beechmont, surrounded by their closest family members. Kirsten says their celebrations were special because they disregarded the conventional order of events. “We had our pre-wedding honeymoon first, then about a month later we had our wedding, then a week later we had our surprise engagement party,” she says. Many guests at the “surprise engagement party” were shocked to discover the couple had already married. “Lee, in his wedding suit, was secretly taken to the back entrance to sneak in and I walked in the main entrance in my wedding dress. All our friends thought they were surprising us but we were the ones surprising them.” THE DRESS: Kirsten wore a Gubanyi Collection low back ivory lace dress with a sweetheart neckline from GC Bridal Lounge. She added removable drop tulle sleeves. THE SOUNDTRACK: La Vie en Rose by Édith Piaf and Beyond by Leon Bridges. PHOTOS: Kevin Raison, Darbs Photography
