The Chinese have plenty of ancient beauty and medicinal secrets, including one the Western world is only just catching on to. Face rollers are tools made of jade or other precious stones that glide over the skin like a paint roller.

They’re promoted as helping to increase blood flow, giving the skin a more plump, youthful look while “draining fluids and toxins” from the lymph nodes on the face.

“Used as an anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle beauty tool, it works on the basis of lymphatic drainage,” Lux Aestiva founder Katie Blyth explains.

“Our skin has a lymphatic system, which is a network of tissues just below the surface, and rollers work to massage this area.

“Best used on the face, the tool gently massages the skin to boost circulation, reduce puffiness, improve elasticity, promote cell turnover, and a whole host of other benefits.

“This traditional Chinese beauty tool has been handed down through generations, a practice that has stood the test of time due to its highly effective skin benefits.”

If you’re a believer in the power of crystals, jade is one of the best minerals to use as it’s thought to have powerful soothing properties.

“It (jade) can help to relieve irritability, eliminate negative energy and promote selfhealing,” Katie says.

“It is known as a lucky stone that offers good health, wealth and love.

“Rollers can also be found in rose quartz and other stones.”

Used in conjunction with a moisturising facial oil, face rollers may encourage fresher and brighter looking skin, making for a soothing night ritual to ease you to sleep.

“I definitely recommend using rollers at night with a face oil — we suggest Lux Aestiva’s Prickly Pear Oil,” Katie says.

“After cleansing your skin, apply the face oil then gently massage with the roller.

“Only use gentle pressure while rolling jade over the face, assisting to sweep away toxins and balance out any excess fluid.

“The roller will massage the oil into your skin, helping it to absorb better and work its magic overnight.

“Keep your jade face roller in the refrigerator before using it as the coolness will also help to reduce any swelling.”
