CAFE SURFING

GLUTEN, DAIRY AND REFINED SUGAR MAY BE OFF THIS MENU, BUT FLAVOUR IS A FIXTURE

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Gold Coast Eye - - EYE EAT - WORDS: DENISE RAWARD

There’s not a trace of gluten or refined cane sugar to be found at this healthy hotspot, which makes nearly everything from scratch using as much local and organic produce as it can get its hands on. A breakfast favourite is the buckwheat pancakes with caramelised maple banana, raw chantilly cashew cream, raw blueberry chia jam and pure maple syrup with an optional side of vegan nutmeg and vanilla-bean ice cream. If savoury is more your thing, try the housemade sorghum wrap filled with free-range eggs, nitrate-free smoky bacon, charred pumpkin, grilled onion, avocado, organic spinach and homemade farmhouse chutney. The cafe’s new menu is also completely dairyfree (although there is organic cow’s milk for coffee/tea choices).

The house blend comes from Ground Control Tweed Heads. It brews rich and smooth with a choice of milks including the housemade hemp or almond milks.

The free-range dippy eggs is $13 while the deluxe breakfast wrap is $22. A standard coffee is $5.

Inside offers a cosy, rustic vibe but on a sunny day, venture to the hidden backyard to admire the garden that thrives on the cafe’s composted organic matter.
