Afab­u­lous char­ity con­cert is be­ing ar­ranged by lo­cal theatre mu­si­cian Mary Walters in aid of the James Ja­cobs Fel­low­ship Christ­mas Day Lunch at St Peter’s Angli­can Church, South­port. Called One En­chanted Evening, it’s a sparkling evening of song, dance and com­edy fea­tur­ing favourites from the mu­si­cals South Pa­cific, Chess, The King and I, Les Mis and more. Per­form­ers in­clude chanteuse Kirri Adams, Anne Ryan, Clem Halpin, Louise Har­ris, Chris Cather­wood, St­effi Kriz, Ka­t­rina Lardner, Martin Jen­nings, Ro­drigo Me­d­ina Noel as well as Yours Truly, and award-win­ning dance en­sem­bles from Napa, chore­ographed by Kim Reynolds. It’s taking place Septem­ber 13 from 7.30pm at Spot­light’s Main Theatre. Tick­ets are $25, in­clud­ing a sump­tu­ous sup­per at in­ter­val. Sounds like a fun evening for a good cause. Spot­light Theatre will open The Mar­vel­lous Won­derettes soon. A se­quel to last year’s Won­derettes show, four girls are at a re­tire­ment party for their favourite teacher and later at­tend their 20-year high school re­union. Di­rected by Sue and Paul Belsham, this is a mu­si­cal with a live band, with mu­sic from the ’70s. Tick­ets are avail­able from Just Funkin Mu­sic Store, River St Bal­lina with a $2 per ticket book­ing fee, or on­line at the theatre’s web­site with no fee. Those look­ing for an­other dose of Hello, Dolly! should make their way up the high­way to Toowoomba’s Em­pire Theatre where the Toowoomba Cho­ral So­ci­ety is stag­ing the show Septem­ber 7-9. Lead­ing man Rob Hor­ton is re­placed by Grant Ebel­ing to play Horace Van­dergelder. Book on­line. Matt Ward En­ter­tain­ment hosts the Mu­si­cal Theatre Queens­land Per­form­ing Arts Cen­tre (QPAC) has achieved its high­est at­ten­dance on record for the year end­ing July 2018. At­ten­dance at QPAC reached 1,573,582 for the 201718 fi­nan­cial year, ex­ceed­ing the pre­vi­ous record set in 2014-15 (1,405,101). Open­ing Septem­ber 7 and run­ning un­til Septem­ber 22 is Javeen­bah’s Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. Lily, the widow of a South­ern Bap­tist Min­is­ter, signs up for dance lessons with Michael. Each of their six lessons is filled with laugh­ter GCLT’s fi­nal pro­duc­tion for the year will be the pan­tomime Cin­derella, di­rected by Stu­art Lums­den. Au­di­tions for this classic will be held at the theatre at 10am on Septem­ber 30. In re­hearsal is Javeen­bah Theatre’s Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, GCLT’s Run For Your Wife and Hello, Dolly!, Javeen­bah’s A Kick in the Baubles and Spot­light’s The Mar­vel­lous Won­derettes and We Will Rock You. Play­ing is Tu­gun Theatre Com­pany’s Writer’s Block and Tweed Theatre Com­pany’s First Things First.
