HOW TO SNAP UP TICKETS TO STRUT & FRET’S SIZZLING NEW SPECTACLE

The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - FRONT PAGE - AMBER MACPHERSON

Theatre production company Strut and Fret is known for its thrilling live shows that push the boundaries of performance, but the latest instalment coming to the Gold Coast promises to be the wildest yet.

As part of the festivities at next year’s Bleach* Festival, Limbo Unhinged will exhilarate audiences with a sensual, stunning cabaret like they’ve never seen before, and tickets are on sale today.

The vivacious variety show is described as a journey that transports you to a world somewhere between heaven and hell. “Limbo Unhinged really pushes the boundaries more than any other show that’s been to the Gold Coast,” director Scott Maidment says.

“The performers are super sexy, the show has an international cast, all the music is live.

“It takes you into a crazy world. It’s not purgatory – Limbo is a good place, you could stay forever there.

“It’s a cabaret of amazing bodies and amazing skills. It’s a crazy production of fire breathing, fire twirling, arrow shooting, acrobatics, dancing.”

Limbo Unhinged dancer Hilton Denis says it’s a progression of the original show Limbo that began in London and travelled to arts festivals around the world.

“It’s an extension of the first show. The first show takes you into this dreaming world, Limbo Unhinged is in your face,” he says.

“It’s very exotic, it’s a really sexy show, very modern, eccentric. It’s very visual and It’s got like a rock star kind of feel to it.”

Setting up at the Gold Coast Bulletin Centenary Park outside The Star Casino, Scott says the magic of an old-school circus tent will add to the fantasy and audience engagement.

“Part of that amazing atmosphere is that it’s in the Spiegeltent,” Scott says.

“It’s something that’s temporary, it’s only there for a short amount of time. In the tent, everybody’s up close and personal.

“You look across at someone on stage, behind them you see a whole heap of people looking back at you. If they laugh you laugh, there’s this contagion.

“We’re not making plays, we’re not pretending. There’s no doubt that the performers are performing there for you.

“The more you become involved, and the more you give in to the show, the more you get.”

Scott says Limbo Unhinged is for anyone who enjoys a live show, whether that’s music, dancing or the circus.

“A girl who was 13 years old (saw the show), she thought it was like a crazy adventure like Alice in Wonderland, and then there was a couple on a date night, and they thought it was the hottest, sexiest thing they’d ever seen,” Scott says.

“It’s what you make it. It’s something for all of you.”

Limbo Unhinged season begins April 18 and runs until May 12. Tickets are on sale now at spiegeltentgoldcoast.com
