Gilly’s Storm warning over Queensland stars

-

SHE is the baby of the Australian Olympic team and will finally dive into action tomorrow morning when the 10m platform event gets under way in London.

At just 16, Gold Coast schoolgirl Brittany Broben may be the youngest of the nation’s 410 Olympic athletes but she has worked as hard as anyone to make it to the global sporting showpiece.

With the help of father Paul and mother Janine (below), Brittany makes the trek from their Mermaid Waters home to Brisbane 10 times a week for training, with the teen star fitting in her Year 11 studies at Marymount College between sessions. ORIGIN assistant coach Trevor Gillmeister will use inside knowledge of Melbourne’s big three Queensland representatives to help the Titans conjure a crucial victory over the Storm on Friday night.

Billy Slater, Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk tore the Titans apart earlier this year in round 3 at Skilled Park and the Coast can’t afford to let it happen again as they charge for a finals berth.

“Billy, Cam and Cooper are going to feature in our tip sheets,’’ said Gillmeister, who has been an important part of the Maroons’ brains trust over the past seven years.

The Titans fly out for Melbourne today boasting their strongest team in more than two months after enforcer Greg Bird was yesterday named on an extended bench to return from a hamstring injury.
