LOCAL businesswo­men can pick up some tips from Australia’s first MasterChef at The Arts Centre Gold Coast on September 14.

Since taking the first series of the TV phenomenon by storm, Julie Goodwin has leveraged reality fame into a steadily simmering career.

Her book, Our Family Table, was published in 2010 and immediatel­y topped the best-seller list.

She’s now working on a new tome to release next Mother’s Day.

No surprise her trip to the Coast, to appear at the Business Women Incorporat­ed lunch forum, will be fleeting.

“Unfortunat­ely, this time I will just be up and back for the event,” she says.

“I am very busy, but I always make time for my family.

“There is nothing better than all sitting around the dinner table and sharing what your days have been like over a home-cooked meal, or having a lazy Sunday breakfast with the family.”

Julie says her has evolved since MasterChef kitchen.

“I really started to experiment, trying to re-create things that I had tasted and enjoyed elsewhere, swapping recipes and ideas with friends and family,” she says.

“I have found that food is pivotal at any gathering and a real kinship occurs naturally over a meal.

“I have learnt to cook meals with time, patience and love to really create the best dishes I can.”

“We must be doing something right as each year more people attend,” says organiser, Rotary Club Gold Coast’s Phil Rosenberg.

“While many organise tables of 10 friends, most come along as couples or with a few friends.

“There are also a few companies that use it to entertain clients or thank their staff, and we noticed that last year girls’ night outs were popular.”

Proceeds from the event are donated to Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children.
